This was quite the project for me.. I don’t typically don’t do custom orders, very seldom actually, but a young woman had asked me to do a commission for her boyfriend who had been so great to her during a rough time while her mother fought cancer. Her story touched me, and I had agreed.. before I knew it was a cuttlefish! Not knowing exactly what a cuttlefish is, she sent me this picture of what one looks like:
As you can tell, the name is very misleading for this creature. It’s definitely not something I would want to cuddle and trying to make this sea dweller to be cute proved to me to be an intimidating task.
After fighting with how I wanted it to look, I think it turned out how it was truly meant to live; to be cuddled! We should change the spelling of the name to an actual cuddlefish!

**Notes: This pattern is worked in continuous rounds.
It’s helpful to know how to do invisible decrease as it will look cleaner!
Always be mindful of commas in the pattern!

12mm safety eyes

Round 1: 6 single crochet in Magic Ring (6)
Round 2: *Inc* around (12)
Round 3: Sc around (12)
Round 4: *Sc, Inc* around (18)
Round 5: Sc around (18)
Round 6: *Sc 2, Inc* around (24)
Round 7: Sc around (24)
Round 8: *Sc 3, Inc* around (30)
Round 9: Sc around (30)
Round 10: *Sc 4, Inc* around (36)
Round 11: Sc around (36)
Round 12: *Sc 5, Inc* around (42)
Round 13-25: Sc around (42)

Tentacles:
Ch 13. Sc in second chain from hook and work across back to the circle. Sl st into next FLO. *Ch 13. sc in second chain from hook and work across back to the circle, sl st into next FLO.* repeat into each stitch around in FLO. Once it is done, use the tail to sew in the BLO and close the hole shut!
Ruffles (Begin in white)
Pull yarn through stitch where head begins. In same stitch where you pulled through, do 2 hdc. In next stitch, 4 hdc. In each stitch around, repeat *2 hdc, 4 hdc*
