Time to poke our heads out for the sun!
I’ve never had a rabbit as a pet but from what I see on Tik Tok, they seem to be such amazing pets in your home. Although I probably won’t adopt one, I can make one to take care of! At the time of this post, we are entering spring time and a bunny typically comes to mind when thinking of the new season. And for every new season we enter into, JOANN will have what I need.
I grew up celebrating Easter and a bunny was always very representative of the holiday. I absolutely loved waking up in the morning to see an Easter Basket ready for me! Filled with chocolates was always perfect but now I would be happy if it was just yarn. (And I hope you know I’m serious!) To be more specific, Big Twist would be my first choice. What would you want from JOANN in your basket?
The thought behind the project
There’s a ton of different bunny rabbit crochet patterns out there on the web so it was difficult to know how to make mine stand out. The first direction I wanted to go was making it a home décor piece! With the way it’s constructed, it’s easy to place onto a flat surface and add some charm to your home this spring. Or all year really!
The finished piece is supposed to have the appearance that it’s poking its head through the ground and the white popcorn stitches should be seen as its paws. It’s a simple enough design that even after Easter passes, this is still a great pattern to dive into this spring.
I went with a white bunny rabbit but down below, you can find the free and easy crochet pattern as a photo tutorial. Feel free to choose any colors you find appropriate. If I had to choose a different color for this project, I would have gone with brown to make a chocolate bunny.
What kind of yarn would you want in your basket?
At this point, anything I can find from JOANN is more of a treat that chocolate is! JOANN is always helping me spark my creativity with all the materials they have in their stores and online. There always seems to be something I need from their isles no matter the season – and they are making this Spring feel so refreshing.
JOANN is my go to when it comes to materials, especially the yarn I use! As a blogger, creating my own designs is made easy with them. You’ll see below that I have a favorite yarn – I am excited for you to try it out. (Spoilers: It’s Big Twist Value)
Spring is a really great time for spring cleaning and refreshing everything around – materials included. I am definitely sprucing up my tools and JOANN is the only place to do it for me. I need more yarn, stitch markers, and even clean darning needles. All materials I use will be listed down below!
This pattern is perfect for you if:
- You’re looking for home décor for the spring (or Easter)
- You’re looking for a pattern that uses a fun new stitch, the popcorn stitch.
- You’re looking to make a gift for someone
- You want a pattern that can be made in just a weekend.
So where can you find what you need?
You can find every single thing I used for this project from JOANN stores and you will see all of that hyperlinked for you. JOANN is my favorite place to go for materials and the yarn I love the most for amigurumi can be exclusively found there as well. When purchasing, I earn a little bit of the commission, so thank you for supporting me as a blogger.

Creating the “Grass” and “Paws” (Popcorn stitch border)
Slip stitch into the next next stitch.
Attach your green yarn by pulling through
Sc into the first stitch.
Into the following indicated stitch, yarn over and insert your hook into the stitch (as you would a double crochet)
Yarn over and pull through. You will be left with 3 loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through the first two loops.
You will be left with 2 loops on your hook. Yarn over and insert in the same exact stitch once again.
Yarn over and pull through the first loop. Uou will be left with 4 loops on the hook. Yarn over and pull through the first 2 loops. (like before)
Continue to yarn over and pull your hook through the first 2 stitches 3 more times (5 in total) You will be left with 6 loops on your hook into total.
Yarn over and pull through all 6 loops.
Single crochet into the next stitch.
You work will “puff” out
Continue following the pattern – After your single crochet you have just performed, ch 1.
*Popcorn stitch into the next stitch, sc into the next. Ch 1, repeat from * 5 more times (6 in total – you will have 6 of the big popcorn stitches)
Into the 6th popcorn stitch before pulling through all the loops, attach the white yarn and pull through.
Single crochet into the next stitch.
Ch 1, popcorn stitch into the next stitch. Single crochet into following stitch. Popcorn stitch into the next stitch and pull your green yarn through all 6 loops (you will be left with two big popcorn stitches)
*Sc into the next stitch. Ch 1, popcorn stitch into next stich. Repeat from * 2 more times until final popcorn stitch. Pull the white yarn through all 6 loops.
Once the white yarn is attached, repeat the step from above when attaching the white yarn for the first time (Single crochet into the next stitch. Ch 1, popcorn stitch into the next stitch. Single crochet into following stitch. Popcorn stitch into the next stitch and pull your green yarn through all 6 loops – you will be left with two big popcorn stitches)
This is a great to insert the safety eyes into your project – Start counting from the center of the magic ring at the top of the bunnies’ head, insert safety eyes into round 13 with 9 stitches apart. You will want to do your best to line them up with the white popcorn stitches.
Stuff the head firmly!
Single crochet into the next stitch with the green yarn. Continue repeating the popcorn stitch pattern [Ch 1, popcorn stitch into the next stitch. Single crochet into following stitch] all the way around until last stitch before initial sl st.
When you’ve done your final popcorn stitch, slip stitch into the next stitch which was your first stitch of the round.
Finish off and weave in all of your ends.

Assembly
Beginning with the bottom closure, thread the tail through the darning needle.
Using the piece for the top of the vase, thread your yarn through the darning needle. With your darning needle, insert into the first back loop (I like to begin where the previous round ended) Have your needle begin from inside of the circle and then move outward.
Into the next loop, insert needle though the loop and next stitch on the piece being attached.
Continue weaving through corresponding loops and stitches.
When your project is getting closer to being sewn shut, be sure to start stuffing your work firmly!
Attaching the ears
The ears can be placed however you wish
On the top of the head, place the ears in place. My ears [roughly] begin in round 5 and end in round 10. With your darning needle, weave through the stitches in and out to attach on securely.
With your darning needle, weave through the stitches in and out to attach on securely.
Repeat the same sewing process with the other ear on the opposite side with the other ear.
Embroider Details
Beginning with the ears
Using a generous length of pink yarn (50 -75″ inches) thread through the darning needle. Beginning with the first ear, pull the pink yarn from the back of the head and up through the center stitch of the ear.
With the yarn, count 5 rows up and insert your needle through Round 6
Bring the yarn back through the bottom of the ear into the left stitch of the center stitch we began in.
Going back to the top, insert your darning needle in the same center stitch above.
Come back down to the other available side of the center stitch from before. Insert needle back into the top center stitch
With all three spaces taken, you will come back through the same stitch on the left. Going back into the same center stitch up top, pull slowly so the yarn will cover the remaining negative space.
Continue doing this into the next 2 bottom stitches – And here is how your ears will look!
Face Embroidery
The last step is to embroider on the face! This includes the eyelashes, nose, and blush!
Thread the pink yarn through the needle and pull out from the center of the face, 3 stitches apart from the right eye.
Looping the needle, insert into the stitch that is 2 stitches over from the stitch you pulled through
Loop around the same stitches 2 more times (3 in total)
When you’ve looped around 3 times, pull your needle through 2 stitches down below the nose and pull through. Insert back through the center of the nose and the same on the right side.
Congratulations! You’re finished! I have no doubt that you’re Bunny turned out to be the cutest one out there. A huge thank you to JOANN for helping me come out with this pattern that I could offer to all of my readers. It means so much to me for all of you to be here.
