Royal Crown Market Bag
It’s almost summer! I don’t know about you, but over here in Oregon, being environmentally friendly and recycling is pretty cool. We also have some pretty rad markets in the city. In honor of Earth Day, I’ve teamed up with Lion Brand Yarn to bring you the Royal Crown Market Bag! The kit to make your own can be found here! I am proud to admit that some of the details were inspiration from this binge of Game of Thrones I am in the middle of. Being able to hold everything with ease, this market bag cuts back on using too much plastic and paper when shopping around; and it adds a summer flair to your outfit!
Skill Level: Intermediate
Materials:
2 Skeins of 24/7 Cotton in Camel
4mm hook
Darning Needle
Scissors
Stitch Marker
Gauge: Exact gauge is not needed for this project.
Dimensions:
Width: 16.5”/42cm
Length: 13”/33cm
Straps: 47”/119.5cm (This can be adjusted to your liking!)
Abbreviations:
Ch – Chain
Sc – Single Crochet
Inc – Increase
PS – Puff Stitch
Rep- Repeat
( ) – number of stitches at the end of the round
Notes: This pattern will be worked in continuous rounds and a stitch marker will be extremely helpful to make sure you know where you’re at. It is worked from the bottom to the top! You will need to know how to do the Puff Stitch.
Pattern Instructions
Starting from the bottom:
Rnd 1: 8 Sc into Magic Ring (8)
Rnd 2: *Inc, rep from * around (16)
Rnd 3: *Sc, Inc, rep from * around (24)
Rnd 4: *Ch 2, sc, rep from* into the next stitch. This will leave you with 24 little loops. (24) (Pictured below)
Rnd 5: *Ch 4, sc, rep from* into the next “loop” around (24) (Pictured below)
Rnd 6: *Ch 6, sc, rep from * into the next “loop” around. (24) (Pictured below)
Note: Your work will be a bit scrunched up, it’ll even out and become flat the more you work on it!
Rnd 7: *Ch 8, sc, rep from * into the next “loop” around. (24)
Rnd 8-18: Continue with the *Ch 8, sc into next loop, rep from * around, keeping your 24 loops.
Rnd 19: Going into the next loop with your sc, counting this is the first sc. Sc into each loop 8 times around. (192) (Pictured below)
Rnd 20: Sc into each stitch around. (192)
Rnd 21: *Ch 8, skip 8, and sc, rep from * around until you have 24 Loops again.
Rnd 22-27: Just like before, *ch 8 and sc, rep from* into next loop around.
Rnd 28: *Ch 6, sc into next loop rep from* around.
Rnd 29. Going into the next loop with your sc, count this is the first sc. Sc into each loop 6 times around. (144)
Rnd 30-31: Sc around (144)
Rnd 32: Sc into the next 54 stitches, ch 18, skip 18, sc. Sc into the next 54, ch 18, skip 18, sc.
Rnd 33-34: Sc around (144)
Finish off.
Strap
Ch 155 (You can always chain whatever length you would like, just be sure to ch in an odd number so you can end up with an even number when entering the second chain from the hook!
Row 1: In second chain from hook, Hdc across. (154)
Row 2: Ch 1, turn. Hdc across. (154)
Row 3: Ch 2, Puff Stitch into the first stitch. Ch 1, sk 1, Puff stitch. Repeat this all the way across.
(Some people get confused with the ch 1 for the Puff Stitches, here is how it’s done for this pattern pictured below)
Row 4-5: Ch 1, turn. Hdc across.
Finish off and leave tail for sewing.
For the final step, all you have to do is now sew on the handles in between the two handles, giving you the functionality of handles and a strap.
