Everyone deserves the dignity to crochet under the stars safely but capitalism only allows that for the few.
Crochet is an amazing craft and I genuinely believe it can benefit every single person who knows how to.
Everyone in this life should have the value, dignity, and decency to be able to crochet in peace. We should be at that point in society. This applies to all art.
But sadly, we are not. Capitalism doesn’t allow for this safety and peace for the many.
Because of this capitalist system, people don’t get to enjoy their art to its fullest. People can’t even find the time and energy to craft for fun without some sort of thought being, “is this productive enough?”
Capitalism forces you to take the pure joy out of crafting and now the first instinct is “how am I going to make money off of this passion or hobby?”
I myself as a White man, can crochet to a level of peace others with different skin tones may not be able.
Due to being able to profit off humans, many people must now worry about being detained or thrown into a modern day concentration camp. No human should have to have this in the back of their mind when crafting. It’s evil.
How can you peacefully craft knowing that you, your neighbors, or loved ones are one bad moment away from experience such violence? It’s a mental toll.
How many artists and creative endeavors are we missing out on because they have to choose between feeling alive or making ends meet?
I have worked hard to be there I am at but I have so much privilege that has made my journey easier and my future with less worry.
I worry for my fellow countryman and I am angry towards the others. Everyone deserves to crochet in peace and capitalism stops this from happening.
Humans should be spending their time making art or enjoying themselves, not producing capital for a ruling class that only exploits.
