Right now, succulents are IN. I have splurged on myself and gotten a few.. they really add so much life to any room! Why not make it more lively with your world turtle holder? This piece was based off of the mythology of the World Turtle, depicted as a turtle carrying the world on it’s back. This picture is my favorite depiction of it:

“World Turtle” Succulent Pot Holder
**Notes: This pattern is worked in continuous rounds.
It’s helpful to know how to do invisible decrease as it will look cleaner!
Always be mindful of commas in the pattern!
Materials: 9mm hook
Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick and Quick in these colors:
Polyester fiber fill
12mm safety eyes
Scissors
Darning needle
Plant Pot will need to be 3.5” inches
Abbreviations: sc = single crochet
hdc = half double crochet
mr = magic ring
Sc inc = increase (2 sc in next stitch)
dec = decrease (sc 2 together)
ch = chain
FLO = front loop only
BLO = back loop only
Here is how big your final piece will be!
Let’s begin! There are pictures below while doing each section and they are here to help guide to let you know you’re on the correct path!
Shell (begin in brown)
Begin with 6 sc in Magic Ring
Round 1: *inc* around (12)
Round 2: *sc, inc* in BLO around (18)
Rounds 3-7: hdc around (18)
It should fit snug around the pot!
Round 8: *sc, inc* in FLO around (36)
Rounds 9-13: hdc around (36)
Here you can see how to stuff it (left) and what it would look like with the pot inside (right)!
Round 14: *hdc 4, dec* around (30)
Begin stuffing with fiber fill (see example above)
Round 15: *hdc 3, sc dec* around (24)
Round 16: *hdc 2, sc dec* around (18)
Round 17: *hdc, sc dec* around (12)
Round 18: dec around (6)
Slip stitch to finish off, leaving a long tail to sew the hole closed.
Head (begin in green)
Begin with 6 sc in Magic Ring
Round 1: inc around (12)
Round 2: *sc, inc* around (18)
Rounds 3-5: sc around (18)
Place safety eyes in round 4, 5 stitches apart. Begin stuffing with fiber fill.
Round 6: *sc, dec* around (12)
Slip stitch to finish off, leaving a long tail to sew neck to shell.
Flippers (make 4; begin in green)
Begin with 6 sc in Magic Ring
Round 1: inc around (12)
Round 2: *sc, inc* around (18)
Round 3: *sc 2, inc* around (24)
Slip stitch to finish off, leaving a long tail to sew flippers in half and to the shell.
With the circle you’ve made, fold it in half and sew it shut!
By this point, you should have all these pieces below to sew together!
