Ahh amigurumi! In case you didn’t know, the word Amigurumi is the Japanese word for “add bio” and you can find some of the cutest little dolls out there! For most pieces of fiber arts, you will see that both knitters and crocheters tackle them all – such as scarves, sweaters, hats, etc) but, when it comes to doll making, this art form is seen a lot by crocheter! The way it works up seems to be kinder to the doll making process than knit / but that isn’t to say knit can’t join the ring and make toys as well!
On this episode, Morgan and I tackle two dog Amigurumi as well. Since they both work up so differently, we had to think about what this would look like. Amigurumi comes in many different styles and sometimes you have to think outside of the box to figure out what will be most effective. Check out to see how our crochet and knitted puppies come out by clicking HERE.
What can I learn from this Episode?
From the crochet perspective, we talk about how to get started with the Magic Ring, which is a fundamental part of working in the round, which is a common way of making amigurumi! There are many different ways to go about creating the magic ring (or known as the magic loop) but I show you the way that is most effective for me. Using primarily the single crochet, you will be able to learn how make circles of all different shapes!
For knitting, Morgan shows us how to create this unique piece by displaying the shape of her unique balloon dog! And to close it off to finish the piece, she also demonstrates how to close the doll by casting off.
